The Triveni Sangam in Gujarat is located near Somnath and Veraval in Gir-Somnath district. At present, due to the changing course of the river in this extremely geologically active Bengal delta region, the Jamuna river of Bengal has almost disappeared and the stream of Saraswati is also rather thin, but in the past all three channels used to carry significant portions of the flow. It is believed that the "Yukta Veni" (connected) of Prayag in Prayagraj becomes "Mukta Veni" (disentangled) in Tribeni Sangam. In the town of Tribeni in Hooghly district in West Bengal, the river Bhagirathi Hooghly, one of the two main distributaries of the Ganges splits into three more distributaries which are called Ganga, Jamuna and Saraswati. The auspiciousness of the confluence of two rivers is referred to in the Rigveda, which says, "Those who bathe at the place where the two rivers, white and dark, flow together, rise up to heaven." Ī place of religious importance and one of the sites for the historic Kumbh Mela held every 12 years, over the years it has also been the site of the immersion of ashes of several national leaders, including Mahatma Gandhi in 1949. The third river, the mythical Saraswati, is called invisible. Triveni Sangam is located at Prayag – the area of Prayagraj neighbouring the confluence for this reason, the confluence is also sometimes referred to as Prayag. Triveni Sangam is the confluence of the Ganges (Ganga), the Yamuna, and the mythical Sarasvati River. The remainder of the movie deals with how Ganga and Jamuna reunite, and the roles played by Saraswati and Shankar, not to forget Ganga's mission to exact revenge on his Thakur uncle. The boat ride is required to get to the holy point where the pilgrims take the holy dip at the junction. The third river Saraswati approaches from beneath the meeting point of the other two. Here the sacred river Ganges gets united with another sacred river Yamuna. Ganga takes the help of Saraswati ( Jayaprada) to take care of his son, and she ends up falling in love with him. Jamuna, who loses her memory from the fall, ends up reaching the home of singer Shankar ( Mithun Chakraborty), who recognizes her from a qawwali performance she had performed, and falls in love with her.
Ganga saves his child but cannot find Jamuna. A blast takes place at the bridge and Jamuna falls into the river along with her child. When he returns, Thakur sends his aides to kill him. Ganga is arrested for beating up Thakur's son and is jailed for two years. When Jamuna falls in deep ice, in the process of providing her with jism ki garmi, he ends up having sex with her. The next day, when the goon returns to take Jamuna away forcibly, Ganga gets into a fight with him.
When it starts raining, Ganga ends up going to a nearby lodge to take shelter, pretending he and Jamuna are a couple. Ganga is forced to stop the truck due to a road block. One day Jamuna ( Meenakshi Sheshadri) jumps into his truck to save herself from a goon who is after her. Bharati Devi's son, Ganga ( Amitabh Bachchan) having taken a pledge to avenge the wrong done to his family, ends up becoming a truck driver. Likewise the characters of our story Gangaa Jamunaa and Saraswathi desire to meet and merge in love of each other. Gangaa Jamunaa and Saraswathi the most pious rivers, create a unique holy merger, popularly known as Sangam. Thakur Hansraj ( Amrish Puri) is a greedy man who kills his brother-in-law Trilok Kapoor takes the signature of his sister Bharati Devi ( Nirupa Roy) on property papers under a false pretext and takes control of her property.
